ABOUT THIS PROJECT
Royal Chess is a modern digital chess ecosystem engineered for players seeking diverse game variants, competitive matchmaking, and unique digital board customization. Available seamlessly across web and mobile viewports, the platform bridges real-time competitive gaming with Web3 digital asset ownership. By integrating a rapid match-creation interface alongside an NFT chessboard marketplace, Royal Chess offers traditional grandmasters and Web3 enthusiasts a fast, visually rich environment for competitive play.

Online chess platforms survive on speed and fluidity: any delay between selecting a time control and making the first move drives player churn. Traditional platforms often suffer from cluttered lobby interfaces, slow match initialization, and disjointed mobile layouts that frustrate players during fast-paced blitz or bullet games.

Royal Chess needed to eliminate time-to-game friction while introducing a secondary revenue stream: an NFT marketplace for custom chessboards, piece sets, and move animations. The primary challenge was integrating digital wallet connectivity and marketplace browsing without cluttering the core gameplay interface or slowing down match queues.
To deliver rapid game setups alongside a smooth marketplace experience, the design and product strategy was organized into four key implementation pillars:

Dramatically Reduced Time-to-Game:
The streamlined lobby layout and one-tap rematch flows significantly decreased the time required for players to launch a new game.
Frictionless Web3 Customization:
Integrating chessboard skin previews directly into the pre-game lobby allowed players to trade, equip, and flex custom NFT board assets without interrupting their match queues.
Consistent Cross-Device Performance:
A responsive component system ensured identical board scaling, gesture accuracy, and clock visibility whether playing on a desktop monitor or a mobile device.
Increased Session Duration:
Instant matchmaking combined with collectible board rewards encouraged longer play sessions and higher player retention rates.
